Oil and Gas: Perth Australia
Perth
is a pristine, modern city of 1.5 million people with a relaxed,
friendly atmosphere. As the State capital and the largest city in
Western Australia, Perth has become the focal point in Australia’s
resources boom.
The city has developed into a thriving regional centre for the
resources sector, particularly the oil and gas industry, and a research
and development hub of a world standard. BP, BHP, Chevron Texaco,
ConocoPhillips, ENI, OMV, Santos, Shell, Woodside and a range of
smaller scale oil companies all have significant interests in Western
Australia’s north-west shelf and the surrounding regions,
and are all headquartered in Perth.
Less than five hours’ flight from South East Asia, Perth
is located on the south west coast of Australia. The city’s
centre is built around the Swan River, providing many opportunities
for outdoor leisure activities from yachting to cycling, jet-skiing
to exploring magnificent King’s Park and the city’s
renowned public beaches.
Just further a field from the metropolitan area is the Swan Valley,
abundant with wineries, orchards and restaurants. A short ferry-ride
away is Rottnest Island, a favourite holiday destination for generations
of West Australians. To the south of Perth lies the beautiful “South
West” renowned for its lush forests, world-class wineries
and pristine beaches.
Living in Perth is a positive pleasure. The city and its surrounds
enjoy a Mediterranean-style climate with hot, dry summers and cool,
wet winters. Maximum temperatures rarely fall below 15° C (even
on the coldest of winter days) and such moderate temperatures allow
those who live in Perth, to enjoy the outdoors all year round.
Perth is home is a number of esteemed private primary and secondary
schools and colleges. Additionally, five universities are located
in Perth including the prestigious University of Western Australia
and Curtin University of Technology. Both these universities boast
innovative, world-class schools of petroleum engineering.
